The photo below is of the level crossing on the "open" line between Mullingar and Athlone in Ireland. The State owned railway company have clearly developed a new, secret, technology, which allows railway rolling stock to dispense with rails, in order to pass over level crossings.

Update 6th February 2009: I spotted one of these special trains in Pearse Station in Dublin. Despite the line to Rosslare being closed by separate landslides at Bray Head and Arklow, the 1725 ex Connolly to Enniscorthy still stated Enniscorthy on the front of the train. Not only can they overcome tarmaced rails but landslides too!
