Ah Yes, 29th February. It only happens once every four years. But it is well publicised. So you would have thought that the RPA/Veolia would have known about it.
Users of the LUAS Smartcard (the one that only works on LUAS because the terrorist Government of the fascist state of Ireland refuses to make laws that restrict business - only laws to restrict the rights of little people) found that like a spinster's proposition that occurs on one day only, the LUAS smartcard became like Hotel California - i.e. you can tag on any time you like, but you can never leave. That's right folks. The smartcard validators don't recognise 29th February as a valid date for tagging off (but do for tagging on!).
Under the rules of the Smartcard system, if you don't tag off, you are charged the maximum fare applicable to the journey, so what was RPA/Veolia's response to their act of theft. We will issue a refund by cheque. Out of interest, will that include at least 50c extra to cover the recipient's bank charge plus a further allowance to cover the time taken to go a bank to lodge the cheque? Oh, by the way, isn't this the same Veolia that won't allow companies signed up to the travelpass scheme to pay for the annual passes for their employees by cheque (speaking from personal experience)? So one rule for us and another for them. I smell a stinking, incompetent, accountant behind this decision. In my considered opinion as a qualified accountant, any accountant who behaves like this is unfit to remain a member of the profession.
