Askeaton is in reasonable nick. The only reason for this is that the now unemployed former level crossing keeper recently sprayed the section of line in front of her house with weedkiller.
The tale tale signs of a closed railway are visible to the trained eye. There is no light on the level crossing gate (there should be a red lamp which would be visible from the track or road depending on whether the gates were against the road or the railway). In addition, the track across the crossing has been tarmaced. Try getting a train through that in a hurry.
